Counter-Terrorism: The War Within the War

The Advisor
By: Lt. Col. John L. Cook
Published: 1987

Vietnam 1968: Into the aftermath of the Tet Offensive steps Lt. John Cook an Intelligence officer with the U.S. Army. He has been assigned to work as an advisor with South Vietnamese forces in Di An District, Bien Hoa Province as part of the Phoenix Progam. Over the next 2 years Cook and his fellow advisors will work to eliminate the Viet Cong Infastructure in Di An, the shadow government that taxes and terrorizes the population, and makes murderous examples of those who question them. The Advisor is Cooks true life story of his 2 years in Vietnam, which ended with the virtual destruction of the Viet Cong in his district and is a testement to the brave men who sacrificed for a noble cause but where ultimately betrayed by politicians and the "Peace" movement back home. Cook and his fellow soldiers, American and South Vietnamiese, have a right to be proud of what they tried to accomplish, may the anti-war movement be forever damned, they share responsability for the Communists crimes against the Vietnamese people.
