The Devil at the Crossroads

The Devil at the Crossroads
By James Barwick
Published: 1986

Spring 1940: As the Nazi war machine prepares to invade France, two members of the SS arrive a Wewelsberg for a meeting with SS leader Heinrich Himmler. This meeting will send the SS agents to France on a desperate manhunt.

Meanwhile in Paris down and out American artist Theo Chandler discovers that the usherette he'd had a fling with, Jacqueline Claudel, has been murdered. Soon after meeting Jacquelines sister Anne-Marie, Chandler finds him self the prime suspect, and that Anne-Marie may be the only one who can clear his name...if she lives long enough.

Better by far then Shadow of the Wolf, the novel still falls short of The Hangman's Crusade. Still it is well written and should keep you turning the pages. Check it out if you get the chance.

*** out of *****
